What is a Service Category?
The term Service Category is used in both ChangePilot and ChangePilot Pro. A Service Category is a group, or bucket, of related Microsoft 365 products and services.
Microsoft 365 is an evergreen service covering a breadth of different services and products. There are 74 different services and products that a Microsoft 365 Message Center or Roadmap item might be related to. Generally, these products and services can be grouped into buckets of related items that, within ChangePilot, are called Service Categories.
When a Microsoft 365 Message Center or Roadmap item is processed by ChangePilot, we assign a 'Primary Service' along with any other affected Microsoft products and services by the change in the 'Services' field. It is the Primary Service of a Message Center or Roadmap item that dictates the Service Category the change the item will be sorted into.
It is common in organisations for the same person/team to look after, or be interested in related products and services within one Service Category, thereby helping with segmenting and filtering Message Center items for relevance.
ChangePilot and ChangePilot Pro users can configure their email preferences to only receive items related to some Service Categories and not others depending on area of work, Microsoft product/service ownership and interest.
For ChangePilot Pro users, channels within the ChangePilot Team in Microsoft Teams are created using the same methodology; one channel for one Service Category. A Message Center or Roadmap item will be posted into the channel of the relevant Service Category, dictated by the item's Primary Service.
