What is the difference between a managed and unmanaged Power Platform solution?
We deliver updates ChangePilot updates through a managed solution so your app stays stable and upgradeable. You can still tailor the experience in your own unmanaged layer, and your changes won’t be overwritten when we ship new versions.
Managed vs Unmanaged Solutions in Power Platform
A managed solution is a locked, packaged and versioned part of a solution. This is the ChangePilot App we build and maintain in our development environment. You are unable to directly modify components to protect functionality and ensure subsequent upgrades don't break.
An unmanaged solution or layer is an editable layer that sits on top of the managed solution for any customisation and bespoke automation. These changes stay in the unmanaged layer.
How is the unmanaged layer handled in ChangePilot updates and upgrades?
When there is a new version of the ChangePilot App/Solution available, you will be notified by the ChangePilot Team. When you download and import the new version, only the managed layer will be replaced.
Power Platform automatically overlays and merges the new managed layer with any customisations included in the unmanaged layer.
If there's a conflict, the unmanaged layer wins, ensuring the tailored experience remains.
